What exactly defines "selling out" in music?

And why does changing the style or genre of music a band plays make
that band a sellout?
If anything, I would consider doing the same thing over and over and
over again to the point that it becomes too dull and cliche to listen
to selling out.

Knowing that this question is a matter of opinion, I'm curious to see
what people have to say.
